Zalka, a Hub for the Lebanese Fashion Industry

Zalka is well-known for being one of the most important fashion markets in Lebanon. Fast fashion and fashion designers are based there. To understand the relationship between this district and the fashion designers, we have interviewed a few fashion Lebanese designers. 67% were between 26 and 30 years old and 33% between 31 and 40 years old. More than 50% of them were previously based in Zalka and they all left the district over the years.

Several reasons let them consider Zalka as a hub for the fashion industry in Lebanon. One of the main factors is the number of suppliers, specialists, and experts. From artisanal factories to fabric suppliers, your dreamy dress could be a pure Zalka’s product! But that’s not all, the high customers traffic and the easy accessibility from Jounieh to Beirut give to the street a cosmopolite face where all the generations meet.

Unfortunately, the district is more and more expensive; there is a heavy regular traffic and park your car became a real challenge.

The young designers with a low budget are now avoiding the place by preferring other new hub as Jdeideh and the malls area. Only the emerging leaders in this field are taking advantage of the district as a stepping stone before relocating to the downtown.

However, the confidence with which the fashion designers assert “Zalka will always be our destination for any requirement in the fashion industry” attempts to legitimize the district as a hub for the fashion industry.
